Second pile of tomatoes, 2008

(Many more to come, too)
---
Weight of goods: 5.5 pounds
Weight total to date: 15.5 pounds
.
I should have weighed the pile yesterday, but it was about the same as this pile. I'll call it 6 pounds. Adding in the dribs and drabs from the past two weeks, I'll call those 4 pounds.
.
I lied yesterday when I said I'd make salsa. I shortly realized that I had squash and eggplant in the fridge, so I made ratatouille instead. It was last night's dinner and today's lunch and it was amazing. I've been making the same recipe for 20 years. Though I don't refer to the written recipe anymore, it's from my first cookbook: Laurel's Kitchen. It's probably the first dish I made by following a recipe, too. That book taught me how to cook.
.
Tonight, I make salsa. Really!

I love ratatouille. I learned to cook it during my time in a small family-owned french restaurant/coffee shop when I was around 18, (oh so long ago.) I have been thinking about it too. I have eggplants just starting to fruit, tomatoes squash and onions... mmmm yeah I'll be making it next week for sure! Great idea!

Laurel's Kitchen was one of my first and is still one of my favorite cookbooks too. The recipes are so basic and wholesome. I love to eat like that...

Your tomatoes look awesome. I found your blog from Verde's.

I have never made this, but I looked up a recipe for it and this is something I can totally do! Thank you mentioning this dish.

I do love ratatouille, but have never made it myself. It's something special that signifies traveling and visiting.

I put two eggplants in the garden for someone who does cook ratatouille and they are just setting fruit.

You're killing me with those tomato shots! I'm ready to bite into my monitor.

Last Sunday I fired up the grill to cook up some halibut tacos (my assistant just got back from an Alaskan fishing vacation -lucky me; still 2 lbs of salmon in the freezer)and I annointed handful of grape-size 'maters in a splash of EV olive oil, sprinkled some salt and cayenne on them and tosssed them on the grill. Just as they started to bubble, off they came into a waiting bowl. Great side dish. Love that summer treat!

Hey, any word on the launch of the writing blog? I'm already in "love/hate" mode anticipating the fun of writing and the pressure of delivering.

mmmm, now I'm hungry!

Re: the invite to the blog, sadly I haven't seen it.. BUT. that doesn't mean it's not there. I didn't check any email yesterday.

Sounds like your maters are doing well. They look tasty!
