School Starts May 18!

(Hmmmm)
---

School, hooray! (Yeah, I say that now.)

The good news is, I'm officially in the system for Trade Adjustment Assistance. The bad news is, I have so may pre-reqs it will take longer than TAA will cover (26 weeks for remedial training + 2 years for education). The catch with TAA is: It all has to be consecutive. So for now, we're paying for school.

But something interesting happened today. I went to the community college to submit my application and get some general academic advising, and while I was there I had to take a math placement test. Can I tell you that the math test was actually fun? I remembered how to solve for x. I remembered how to add fractions and balance equations. Now, more advanced algebra was just squiggles, taunting me. But I totally aced the pre-algebra portion. Gosh. I'm very happy right now.

I didn't get a perfect score- it was more like 78%. I have to retake algebra- and considering it's been 25 years since my last algebra class, I'm totally ok with that. But still, holy crap- math is fun, people.

So starting May 18, I'm taking compressed (12 weeks) summer courses in anthropology and algebra. It feels so totally AP high school.

Yay! yes math is fun; but it's more fun if you've had it recently instead of trying to rack one's brains trying to remember the rules & methods... still - congrats on going back to school!

The Algebra will be easier because you'll see the practical applications now that you've lived a little/lot/sorta/whatever. If you have a good instructor you will amaze yourself. As for Anthro, you'll be teaching the class before it's all over.

What a combo! Hey .. stick us with a good stiff ALgebra problem now and then! Collectively we have 100 years of algebra!

If x = the number of bunnies and y = the number of worms, what is the maximum of x + y before the landlord ..... you get it.

Good luck ... that took courage.

Your worm blogs are so great and inspirational!

I'm missing structure myself. You look well on your way. Congratulations!!

So, so proud of you, Stranger-Friend. You are beginning on a journey you are passionate about, everything will fall in to place.

Husbandly One was in Detroit last weekend, and in the pictures he took everything is so GREEN. I'm jealous!

Congrats on the next phase of your life! You're such an example of urban living! I live in a third floor apt, and I dream of having a garden...I may try to grow some herbs outside my window...basically because I see you doing it! Thanks for the ideas :)

(Oh, and when you've seen Star Trek, come back to my blog so we can discuss!!!)
