I have this little problem, see. I start more tomatoes, peppers, greens, what-have-you, than I myself actually have room to grow, with the conscious anticipation that I will give them away. I just want everyone to garden, plain and simple. Even if it's a single tomato plant.

In truth, I think it's probably where my unused maternal energy has landed and taken up roost, child-free as I am.

I start them at my seedling station, harden them off, and start sending out e-mails a week or two before our last local frost date. Then I lovingly send them packing, like a kid off to college. And like a parent, I've enjoyed them, they've enriched my life, it's been totally worth the effort yada yada, but really, I can't wait for them to leave.

lol, I love it... I did the same thing this year... because really.. do I have need for 8 zucchini plants? Tomatoes, I planted 12 plants... so far. I hate tomatoes. I like growing them... not so fussy on the eats.
re:: the pineapple... maybe I'll have to put it back on the front step! I like the idea of something like that signifying hospitality.... have you heard about couch surfing?
It's too bad you're so far away. After the alternating hail and snow we had here several days last week, many of our plants are goners. At least one tomato plant, a few bean plants, and likely all of our carrots are dead and will have to be replanted from seed once the weather decides to warm back up again.
They grow up so fast.
We started our first little garden. It is however a flower garden, but the kind that is food for butterflies and humming birds. The first little blossoms appeared today. Ahh.. mini-nature.
Just courious.. Are you following the Orphaned Works Act your peoples got cooking up down there?

Funny thing is that I don't eat tomatoes raw but plant lots of salad tomatoes just hoping to give them away red.
It only shows to go that I should take one of your plants!

Divine Miss L.Bo, I'll bite. What the heck is couch surfing? Other than the obvious, which is knitting all day on a pefectly good Saturday with the teevee on, only getting up now and again to refresh my Bloody Mary.
Grant, I'm so sorry you had weather disasters. Hail is a killer and snow often seals the deal. There are row covers designed for bad turns in the weather- a really good supplier for them is Peaceful Valley Farm and Garden Supply. They are in CA.
Pickledog, congrats on your butterfly garden. It's a step in the right direction towards food(!) Orphaned Works Act? Bwah? Sounds positively, deliciously Dickensian. Does it involve coal dust and street urchins?

LOL..my dh is the same way with his plants. He loves to garden!
