These are purely accidental radishes. Yesterday I was digging out a container to plant some zinnias and these came up. I planted them from seed for the baby salad leaf called "Saisai Purple", but let them go to seed once the Detroit heat hit us hard. They are beautiful, aren't they? I'm not a fan of radishes, and actually didn't much care for the leaf, but the roots are surprisingly good. For radishes, that is. Maybe I'll pickle them.

Oh, major yum! I just got Sandor Katz's Wild Fermentation book, and he has some great ferments that call for radishes :)
The garden leaves a gift!
We have five nice raised beds. I always leave one of them, a different one each year, to just let come up what ever does! This year it is garlics, chards, parsley, calendula, peas, kale, and some weeds! Some years i get many potatoes that way, and pumpkins!
Mystery garden!!!
They are a pretty color!
I learned how to pickle in my canning class this week. I want to make some dill pickles. Just got to find me some cukes
Lucky you! I got radishes this year but they weren't pretty or tasty. I think we got started too late in the season.
Radish revolution comith. Keep up the great blog. I love radishes, for Amanda plants them for 2009.
